Teeth Whitening

Discoloured teeth are the bane of tea and coffee drinkers, red wine buffs and smokers. Don’t despair: a safe and effective remedy is available. We will be able to determine whether your teeth are suitable for bleaching before making a thin bleaching tray that fits comfortably over your teeth. This is worn with a small amount of tooth whitening material for 14-21 days or nights. While you wear the bleaching tray, it gently whitens your teeth. According to research, whitening is perfectly safe for teeth and gums. The effect on your teeth is the same as drinking a can of coke. If you carry on with the coffee, red wine and smoking, you can re-brighten your smile by wearing the tray for one or two nights every six to nine months.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers are ideal for creating beautiful smiles in cases of small, oddly shaped, spaced or discoloured teeth. With this procedure you will be involved directly in your own design process in reshaping, widening and brightening your smile, thus ensuring total satisfaction. We place temporary bonding for 2-3 weeks at the preparation while the permanent veneers are being made. Thin skins of porcelain are then bonded to the teeth enabling normal social and eating activities to resume immediately. After treatment you will feel excited and more confident about your beautiful smile.

Porcelain Crowns

For many years, traditional crowns have been used to strengthen teeth that are heavily filled, weakened or darkened due to root canal therepy. Now thanks to new technology, Porcelain Crowns look better than your own teeth. This is because the distinctive dark metal line or “Blue Halo” of old style crowns has been eliminated. Porcelain Crowns are metal-free and so natural looking they can be mistaken for real teeth.

Composite Fillings

Many people have amalgam fillings. These are the silver coloured metal restorations that were the standard care for many years. They were effective in their time, but are not aesthetic, and tend to darken or blacken with time. Today there are tooth coloured materials which can replace your old metal fillings. These composite resin dental fillings are strong, durable and blend into the natural tooth, making them virtually undetectable. Your amalgam fillings can be easily removed and replaced with these natural tooth coloured materials. In some cases, they may strengthen the tooth structure as compared to a metal filling.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small titanium screw that serves as a replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth. The implant is placed in the bone of the upper or lower jaw and allowed to integrate with the bone. It can then serve as the base for the new restoration. Implants can replace one or more teeth and may support a bridge or denture. The restored implant will look and feel like a natural tooth. Implant treatment is now a well-established technique with a success rate of more than 95% over a fifteen year period. The metal used, Titanium, is well proven for strength and safety in hip replacement. These are carried out in conjunction with the Arundel Implant Clinic.

Headaches & Bite Problems

The lower jaw, the facial muscles and the jaw joints are all part of a system that is controlled by the brain. Because we have a detailed understanding of the system, we can detect specific reasons that cause harmful bite patterns and neck and head pain.

The benefit to you as a client is to have comfortable, long lasting dentistry. In addition, we can get rid of those long standing regular headaches.

Gum Disease

Gum Disease is caused by a build up of the bacteria which live in the plague and tarter on your teeth. The harmful chemicals produced by the bacteria irritate your gums causing them to bleed.

If you don’t remove plaque everyday, you may find that your gums become swollen and red and that they bleed easily when you brush your teeth.

As gum disease progresses, your gums may pull away from your teeth to form pockets or gaps between your teeth and gums. We call these gaps Periodontal Pockets. As periodontal pockets can be very difficult to clean out properly, they tend to fill up with more plaque and tarter and become infected.

If allowed to progress this infection spreads further causing your teeth to become loose. Therefore, regular removal of bacteria, plaque and tarter professionally by the hygienist is essential to maintain healthy gums. Excellent homecare is also vital.

In summary, it is gum disease and not tooth decay that is the major cause of tooth loss in adult patients. We can treat and prevent gum disease so that you:

  • Avoid fillings
  • Reduce dental fees
  • Keep your teeth for the long term
  • Have fresh breath
